Aore Island Boat Transfers Santo to Aore Island

Choose the transfer that suits your plans scheduled shared transfer or private boat transfer between Santo and Aore Island. Depending on weather and sea conditions, your transfer may be direct by boat or a combination of boat and road transport. Both options take approximately the same total travel time. Transfers use local-style open boats, commonly called banana boats in Vanuatu. These are not traditional enclosed ferries. This is the normal local way to travel between Santo and Aore Island.

Evenings/Night:

  • Boat transfers operate during daylight hours and are not scheduled after sunset.
  • Local boats do not have navigation lights so it is not safe to travel

  • SPECIFICATIONS

    Aore Island follows a quieter island rhythm on weekends, with time set aside for family, church and community life. Weekend transfers are therefore available by prior booking only.

    Boat travel is also limited to daylight hours. Local boats do not have navigation lights, so we do not operate after dark. This is both a safety measure and part of respecting normal island operating hours. For the smoothest trip, plan to arrive and cross to Aore Island during the day.


    📍 We recommend bringing a light raincoat, reef shoes and a hat. Reef shoes are useful when stepping on and off the boat because some landing areas have coral, shells and coarse coral sand. In some conditions, you may also get a little sea spray during the crossing.

    Please give us as much notice as possible. Boats are not kept waiting at the wharf when there are no bookings they remain secured in the boathouse until needed.

    For same-day transfers, contact us first to confirm availability.


    Limited Spaces

    Scheduled transfers have limited passenger and luggage space, so advance booking is recommended. Once a service is full, you may need to book the next available scheduled boat or arrange a private transfer.

    About the Boats

    Transfers around Aore Island are commonly made by banana boats, the standard local form of island transport. Some boats have a small covered cabin, while others are more open.

    Our transfer boats carry life jackets and basic safety equipment and are operated by experienced, licensed boat captains.

    Hundreds of people travel by boat between Santo and the surrounding islands every day, so this is a normal and practical way to get around.
